Cast Iron & Wood Leg

I was told that this was a prop for leg amputees.
I came out of a 50 year collection of civil War medical Instruments and equipment.
The wooden section was smoothed and padded on top.
It was on display with a mannequin amputee. I'm not so sure that was it's original use.
I would guess that this was a Cobbler's Anvil.
It's also the earliest example I've ever found and probably predates the Civil War.
Its very early and hand forged... $450
